The Polymath Live Extravaganza - Lessons Learned
So it's all over now! About 4-5 months of planning went off with a bang on Sat 3rd May. A huge success and huge fun for everyone involved!
Saying that, we have learned a thing or two about putting on an event of this size. The main issue is of course cost. The biggest expenses were the venue, the PA and the projector. Promotion and merch is an expense but since we sold out of most of the merch we kicked that cost in the ass!
So for next time what can we do to make it better? I'm thinking we strike deals. We can't cut corners because the bar has been set. Everyone at the show was so impressed by the sound and visuals that it is kind of pointless doing anything less than that next time time.
The only down side for ourselves and the artists who collaborated was that there were a lot of people who siad they were going to turn up but didn't. Very disappointing. Although kind of understandable in some cases since it was a bank holiday and family comes first.
It seems to me that promotion is more about quantity rather than quality. We got really nice posters and flyers done. F*ck that! Just get as many flyers done as possible ad put them EVERYWHERE! Posters too. Forget 150gsm gloss blah blah blah. Just get as many done as you can and plaster them all over the town. Brazen is the word. Because for every 10 people who say they're going to come only 1 turns up!
The night was still a massive success though. For the expense we actually got amazing photographs & video - which we'll use for promotion - and a reputation for putting on a massive show that was thoroughly enjoyable. Pushing the envelope! And that is worth more than 100 shitty gigs in London! Damn straight! x

Artists' First Impressions
I've always been the frontman in bands, and they've usually been of my creation. After a self-loathingly slack three years in Nottingham, walking into someone else's band was a bit scary. Would I come across as a loser?

Radio Ga-Ga
Like a kid outside a dreamy sweetshop, I just wanted to press my nose up against the glass in Dean Jackson's BBC studio and peer around the radio station.
